Planning a Nightmare Before Christmas movie night? I’ve got the perfect party game that’ll make your gathering extra spooky.
This Oogie Boogie guessing game is way more fun than your standard “guess how many candies are in the jar” game. It’s creepier, more interactive, and honestly? Kids and adults both get a kick out of it.
What Makes This Game So Fun
Here’s the deal. You fill a green bag with creepy crawly things (we’ll get to that in a minute), and everyone has to guess what’s inside without looking.
It’s inspired by Oogie Boogie himself, that villainous bag of bugs who tries to take over Halloween Town in the movie.
The best part? You probably already have most of what you need at home.

How to Set Up Your Oogie Boogie Game
First things first, grab my free printable. The PDF includes a cute game sign and as many guess cards as you need for your group.
Print everything on cardstock so it holds up better. Regular paper works too, but cardstock just looks more professional.
You’ve got two ways to play this:
Casual party style: Put the sign in a picture frame with the guess cards stacked next to it. Guests can play whenever they want throughout the party.
Planned activity: Keep everything hidden and make it a big reveal during your movie night. Way more dramatic.
What You Need for Your Creepy Bag
Grab a green drawstring bag and fill it with creepy stuff. Here’s what I recommend:
A rubber snake for Oogie’s tongue. This is key because it’s the most recognizable piece.
Plastic spiders in different sizes. Mix it up so some are tiny and some are bigger.
Fake insects like flies, beetles, whatever looks gross.
Want to make it even harder? Add items in completely different sizes. A giant spider plus tiny bugs really throws people off.
If you’re feeling extra fun, throw in some gummy bugs that guests can actually eat. Just make sure everyone knows which items are candy before they dig in.

Prize Ideas That Actually Excite People
The winner needs something good. You could give them the bag of creepy crawlies itself (if you used fake ones, obviously).
Or go with prizes that tie into the movie. Nightmare Before Christmas stickers are always a hit with younger kids.
Older kids and teens? They’ll love a Jack Skellington Funko Pop or this gorgeous Sally Christmas ornament.
You could also fill a plastic pumpkin bucket with candy. Simple but effective.
Making Your Movie Night Even Better
Since you’re already setting up for Nightmare Before Christmas, why not go all out?
Decorations make such a difference. String up some paper bats and scatter decorated pumpkins around your space. If you’re looking for more ideas, I’ve got a whole post about fun ways to celebrate Halloween at home that works perfectly for themed movie nights too.
Want to really commit? Amazon has incredible character-specific decorations. The Jack Skellington hanging lanterns look amazing strung up around your viewing area.
There’s also a Zero the Ghost Dog inflatable and Sally outdoor inflatable if you’re hosting outside or want to decorate your yard.
Costumes aren’t required, but they’re fun. This Jack Skellington adult costume is genuinely impressive looking, and there’s even an adorable baby version if you’ve got little ones.
Themed Snacks Your Guests Will Love
Food is where you can really get creative with the Nightmare Before Christmas theme.
Make Jack’s favorite cupcakes by decorating chocolate cupcakes and topping them with gummy eyeballs. They look creepy but taste delicious.
For drinks, serve Zero’s “blood-red” punch or Sally’s “green ooze” smoothies. Kids love anything with a gross name.
Getting your kids involved in the party prep is half the fun. If you’re doing Halloween activities with them, check out my printable Halloween activities for kids for more ways to keep them entertained.
