Are you pregnant and dreaming of a relaxing babymoon somewhere fun but not too far away?

Whether you’re looking for relaxing spa treatments, a luxury resort, or simply a romantic vacation, we’ve got you covered!

Keep scrolling for the best babymoon destinations in the USA recommended by travel bloggers who have done it!

When to Take Your Babymoon

So, if you are a wanderlusting mama-to-be, you might be wondering when you should take your babymoon. The fact is, you can turn any vacation while pregnant into your babymoon.

Actually, you can take several babymoons, if you like.

The main point of a babymoon is to enjoy one last vacation before adding another member to your family.

It’s a great time to take some time to focus on your relationship while celebrating the new life you are bringing into this world.

Plus, it’s an excuse to take a (probably) much-needed vacation!

And part of your decision on where to go depends on the time of year. You might not want to head somewhere cold for a babymoon in December or somewhere muggy for a babymoon in July!

Most people plan their babymoon for the 2nd trimester.

If you are suffering from morning sickness, I’d suggest holding off until later in your pregnancy to take your babymoon.

Or, pack lots of ginger chews and plan to spend time in the fresh air. And make sure to either pack food you can keep down or know where the restaurants are that won’t aggravate your nausea.

But, if you are feeling okay and you are having a healthy pregnancy, you really can go anywhere. It’s an easy time to fly since you aren’t too uncomfortable.

I flew to Italy at the end of my first trimester and it was a great excuse to enjoy lots of gelato and take a siesta every day!

Personally, this is the perfect time to take a babymoon.

Typically, pregnant women have a bit more energy during their second trimester. So, it’s a fun time to tour a big city, have an island adventure, or do something semi-active.

There aren’t really any restrictions on flying during the second trimester, so you have a lot of babymoon locations to choose from.

You will also probably have a cute little baby bump and strangers will go out of their way to congratulate you.

You’ll feel super cute in your new maternity clothes and will have that lovely pregnancy glow.

If you want to fly somewhere during 3rd trimester, make sure to go as early as you can. There are some restrictions for the last couple of months on most airlines.

Plus, you might feel incredibly uncomfortable on an airplane. Drink lots of water and wear compression socks.

This is the perfect time to go on a babymoon, though if you’d like to do destination maternity photos. You want your bump to be large enough to really show in all the photos.

And, if you go somewhere warm, you can wear just about anything for your photos. I like to use Flytographer when I travel, or you can search for local photographers.

Personally, I’d choose somewhere semi-close to where you live.

You never know if you’ll have a complication or if your baby might come early. It’s reassuring to be able to get to your own doctor/midwife just in case.

Best Places to Take a Babymoon in the U.S.

Since most of my readers are from the U.S., I figure that’s a good place to start for the best babymoon vacations.

I asked fellow travel bloggers to share their top places in the United States for a babymoon and here’s what they came up with:

Maui has everything you need for the perfect babymoon in Hawaii.

The safety is excellent. You won’t have to worry about a higher risk of food-borne illnesses or contaminated drinking water, you’ll find easy access to top-quality medical care if you need it, and the crime rate is low.

Vacation-rental-by-owner sites like have fabulous options for a wide range of budgets.

You can also stay at a hotel or resort for your Hawaii babymoon — consider the Fairmont Kea Lani if you want high-end luxury!

Make sure you check out the gorgeous beaches — go in the morning for the calm water that’s great for swimming, snorkeling, or stand-up paddleboarding.

The island is a hiker’s delight with trails suitable for all skill levels. You can dine at everything from sophisticated, world-class restaurants like the Lahaina Grill to delicious, local, budget-friendly places like Aloha Mixed Plate.

And please don’t leave the island without checking out a Hawaiian luau – the Feast at Lele is one of the best on the island, and perfect for a romantic date night.

When we were expecting our son, we treated ourselves to a babymoon of three lively days in New Orleans, one of our favorite cities.

We had already been to the Big Easy many times and usually had too many hand grenades in the French Quarter and strolled in the wee hours of the morning, soaking up the atmosphere and music on Frenchmen Street followed by Cafe du Monde beignets around dawn.

This trip, however, was going to be a lot different and we slightly wondered whether we would still love the city.

We stayed in a cool loft apartment in the French Quarter and took this opportunity to get to know the real New Orleans – a world of grand old mansions, fascinating architecture, beautiful open spaces, and delicious food that existed beyond the revelry of Bourbon streets.

We explored the Garden District and its old cemeteries, feeling sad for all the wee lives that were lost to yellow fever in the 19th century.

After that, we strolled along the Riverfront and admired the bustling activity on the Mississippi.

We slept in late and attended luxurious jazz brunches to brighten up our day.

And then we explored the French Quarter on foot and admired the French, Spanish, and Creole architecture and fell in love with the gas-lit lamps.

We stepped into quaint galleries and looked around voodoo shops.

Finally, we ate lots of pralines, fudge, and of course beignets.

Our babymoon in New Orleans totally lived up to our expectations and we fell in love with this newly discovered relaxed, cultural, and family-friendly vibe.

Since then we have been to the city thrice and now it’s also our toddler’s favorite place.

For some fun in the sun before the baby is here, spend your babymoon in Miami

If you are flying from within in the US you won’t have to worry about a super long, uncomfortable flight but get all the benefits of a tropical destination.

Photo of Miami, Florida, a top babymoon destination in the U.S. #babymoon #miami #florida #southbeach #travelwhilepregnant
Miami has all the perks of a tropical vacation without crossing an ocean!

In Miami, you can experience a bit of everything. Spend plenty of time poolside or on the beach relaxing guilt-free. Spend even more time relaxing at one of the many amazing spas.

Which resort you stay at depends a lot on how much you would like to spend, but regardless of where you stay, you are never far from a spa with a prenatal massage on the menu.

The Four Seasons Miami offers a luxury experience and has a rooftop swimming pool, spa and access to South Beach.

While you are in Miami, spend a few nights out enjoying some of the amazing food by splurging on fine dining.  Most of all, make sure you take your time and appreciate your time together.”

Known for its beautiful squares, engrossing history, and romantic restaurants, Savannah makes the perfect couples’ getaway.

Consider touring a house museum or two, tasting ice cream at Leopold’s, paying a visit to the beautiful Wormsloe Plantation, or even getting in a little beach time on nearby Tybee Island.

To keep things simple, we recommend staying in or near the historic center, making all of Savannah’s best sights easily accessible during your babymoon.

We loved the Holiday Inn Express in the historic district for a mid-range option, or consider splashing out on a historic hotel or bed and breakfast–we hear great things about The Marshall House!

Best Babymoon Destinations in British Columbia

Since I’m from the Seattle area, I have to include some of the top spots in British Columbia Canada. For one thing, the typically cooler weather is amazing for 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

Plus, it’s so relaxing to be in nature. And I may be slightly biased since I spent my babymoon in Victoria, BC!

Here are a few babymoon ideas for places just north of the border:

If you want to feel like you’re in Europe, without worrying about the long flight while pregnant, consider Victoria, BC.

It’s just a few hours from Seattle (and just a ferry ride away from Vancouver, BC) but it’s like you’ve crossed the pond!

We stayed at the stunningly beautiful Fairmont Empress Hotel & Spa right on the harbor.

I felt completely pampered as soon as we checked in. In fact, they even had chocolate-covered strawberries and sparkling water in our room with a note of congrats!

Plus, they feature a world-renowned afternoon tea, amazing room service, and a relaxing spa featuring prenatal massage.

Victoria, British Columbia is also amazing for a Pacific Northwest babymoon because the city is completely walkable.

And The Butchart Gardens is just a shuttle ride away. Pregnant women can explore as much as they like with ample opportunity to sit back and soak in the scenery.

Or spend time perusing baby clothes at nearby boutiques!

I just got back from the Four Seasons in Whistler and was thinking how it was a perfect place to be for me right now (I’m 6 months pregnant).

They have incredible and prompt service, no matter what you need.

I took advantage of room service a few times, and they also have an app where you can chat live with someone about anything you need and even have your car ready from valet when you get down so there’s no waiting around.

They have a pool and spa with massage services available as well.

Tofino on Vancouver Island’s West Coast makes the perfect babymoon destination any time of year.

In the summer months the sandy beaches stretch for miles and the quaint restaurants have something for everyone!

From Tacofino’s famous fish tacos, to Chocolate Tofino’s locally made chocolate (try the lavender honey ice cream -trust me), and fine dining at the point restaurant at the Wickaninnish Inn there is something for every craving!

If you visit in the winter months, Tofino is world renowned for storm watching ( and rain. )

Stay at the Pacific Sands and watch the waves crash against the rocky landscape from the inside of your floor-to-ceiling windowed townhouse!

Tofino embraces the west coast lifestyle and the pace of life is significantly slower than anywhere else in Vancouver.

The locals are friendly and welcoming and you are sure to get some relaxation in, whether it is wandering the shell-laden beaches or walking through the old-growth forests, or visiting one of the local spas!

Best Places for International Travel While Pregnant

For those of you who are located outside the U.S., or who would like a big adventure, here are some amazing (and exotic) babymoon vacation destinations in other countries:

If you’re looking for the perfect destination for a memorable babymoon, look no further than Portugal’s capital city.

Lisbon is one of Europe’s most picturesque cities, and its laidback pace is perfect for those that need time to relax.

Local Lisboetas tend to spend hours relaxing in cafes and restaurants and, by following their example, you’ll not only come away refreshed but you’ll have done “what the locals do” as well.

While some Portuguese foods may be off limits, particularly some meats and cheeses, the good news is that Portugal’s wonderful pastéis de natas are not.

These are available from just about every cafe in Lisbon, although it’s definitely worth making a special trip to one of the more famous establishments like Pastéis de Belém or Manteigaria.

Lisbon City Centre is home to many wonderful luxury hotels, but the seaside resorts of Estoril and Cascais on the outskirts are particularly popular with visiting babymooners.

In Cascais, for example, you have easy access to the beach, Cascais itself, while attractions like Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower are less than 30 minutes away by taxi.

Alternatively, city centre hotels like the Sheraton in Lisbon’s Saldanha neighbourhood offer spa packages for mothers-to-be while a nearby yoga studio offers a range of pregnancy treatments and services including pregnancy massage, pregnancy yoga lessons, and pregnancy reflexology.

It’s one of the most underrated international babymoon destinations.

Northland New Zealand is the perfect place for a babymoon because it’s safe and relaxing, with stunning beaches and incredible food.

The Bay of Islands area is definitely worth a visit – you can take a stroll along the lovely beaches in the area, take a short ferry ride over to the historic township of Russell, hop around the stunning islands of the region, or even go dolphin spotting if you’re feeling adventurous!

If you want some pregnancy-appropriate exercise there are lots of gorgeous forest walks that are perfectly safe (no snakes or wild animals in New Zealand), and it’s also one of the main hubs to learn about the indigenous Māori culture of New Zealand.

The five-star Paihia Beach Resort and Spa offer a divine pregnancy massage.

If you’re taking a road trip up to the Bay of Islands, make sure you take advantage of public toilets for a comfort stop when you see one – they’re sometimes few and far between! Kaiwaka and Whangarei are the best places to stop, with good facilities.

Sydney is the perfect babymoon destination to enjoy some truly magnificent cultural and culinary experiences before bub arrives, plus there are plenty of opportunities to feel the sand between your toes and relax.

Book tickets for the Sydney Symphony, Australian Ballet, or other world-class performances at the iconic Sydney Opera House. Or just take a behind-the-scenes tour.

Café Sydney overlooking Sydney Harbour makes for a romantic and memorable dinner, especially as the sun goes down.

Enjoy the harbour from the water with a ferry trip over to the blissful beach destination Manly. Swim in the ocean, watch the surfers, and indulge in ice cream in the sunshine.

Stay in the city for convenience, in a harbour-view room if budget allows – the Shangri-La or Park Hyatt for ultimate luxury, or QT Sydney for a super stylish experience.

Even if you don’t stay there, the spa at the Park Hyatt is quite incredible, with services given an Australian twist using native flowers.

It’s best to avoid summer (December to February) if you’re not used to the heat, especially when pregnant, as it can get quite hot and humid.

By Kirralee Baker of Escape with Kids

Easter Island or Rapa Nui is a 63 sq km island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean about 2000 km from mainland Chile. Its isolated location and mystical past make it the perfect destination for a babymoon.

There are many options for accommodations while on the island. But for the ultimate place to stay, check in at explora Rapa Nui.

The all-inclusive hotel is situated just outside the main city of Hanga Roa. The location means you have a wonderful view of the ocean.

The on-site spa also offers massages and uses ingredients sourced from the island.

And because it is all-inclusive, there is no need to worry about food or even excursions.

It’s the perfect way to relax after spending the day exploring the magical history of the island and its mysterious Moai.

Just make sure to drink plenty of water. The island is short on shade and the weather can be quite hot.”

Traveling While Pregnant FAQs

Do I need to plan a Zika-free babymoon?

The Zika virus got a lot of publicity when I was pregnant with my youngest in 2013. It’s a scary virus that can cause serious birth defects.

I know you may be thinking Zika isn’t a big deal anymore because it’s not all over the news. But, there are still cases in lots of countries you might be considering where to go on a babymoon.

Many countries (especially in Asia and Latin America) have reported cases. So, it’s always best to check Zika Travel Information with the CDC with any place you are considering.

What are some affordable babymoon options?

Consider a local getaway that doesn’t require airfare or a long road trip. Look for a nearby bed and breakfast or a relaxing spa retreat.

The U.S. has many beautiful national parks that offer scenic views and plenty of outdoor activities, such as hiking and camping. Check out affordable accommodations near national parks or consider renting a camper van or RV.

Some beach towns offer affordable accommodations and are perfect for relaxing and soaking up the sun. Look for off-season deals or consider renting a vacation home with a kitchen to save on dining expenses.

Traveling mid-week can often lead to lower rates on accommodations and flights. Try to avoid weekends and holidays, which tend to be more expensive.

What should I avoid doing on a babymoon?

Traveling long distances or for extended periods of time can be uncomfortable and tiring, which can be harmful to you and your baby’s health. Consider destinations that are closer to home or a shorter flight away.

Avoid activities that could be potentially harmful to you or your baby, such as extreme sports, scuba diving, or anything that puts you at risk for falls or accidents.

Always consult with your doctor before planning your babymoon and follow their advice regarding travel and activities. They may have specific recommendations based on your pregnancy and health status.
