We checked out Gordon Skagit Farms and were completely impressed! It’s one of the best places for pumpkin patch photos in Washington State. You can even get your photo taken with their stunning blue pumpkins.
The farm is up in La Conner right next to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. It’s not just an amazing place, but also an incredible experience you can have with your family.

Washington State Pumpkin Patches
One of our favorite things to do in Seattle in October is head to the pumpkin patch.
While there aren’t really any inside the city limits, there are tons of easy-to-access pumpkin patches in Washington State. Some of the best ones are just south of Seattle or north of Seattle.
We usually head down to Carpinito Brothers in Kent with a big group of friends to take pumpkin patch photos every year. They have lots of cool kids’ activities and photo props.
However, last year we decided to venture off on our own and check out one that local people keep raving about: Gordon Skagit Farms.
Being in the Seattle area, we usually only hear about the pumpkin farms that are less than an hour away. Gordon Skagit Farms is up in La Conner right next to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.
Let me tell you, it’s totally worth the drive and yes, we’re planning on heading back this year!
What to Expect at Gordon Skagit Farms
If you’re looking for a true family farm that’s been operating for generations, Gordon Skagit Farms is it!
They started growing pumpkins back in 1969, and it’s turned into an adorable boutique pumpkin patch experience.
Gordon Skagit Farms is a bit smaller than other pumpkin patches near Seattle. But, it’s a good thing!
They have TONS of cute photo backdrops (like piles of heirloom pumpkins, cornfields, and gorgeous wreaths) that don’t require much walking.
This Skagit Valley pumpkin patch even has “showrooms” where items are artistically placed for the sole purpose of being photographed. You aren’t allowed to enter these buildings, but taking photos from the doorway is easy.
Another fun display we saw last year was this incredible dress made out of dried flowers and leaves. It seriously looked like something I’d see on Project Runway!
They even have piles of freshly picked apples that you can purchase. We bought a bunch and they were delicious! Plus, you can stock up on local Washington honey.
Of course, my main reason for heading to the pumpkin patch is to take cute photos of my kids (while they will still let me)!
And we were able to set up our tripod to get a family photo in front of the cornfield.
It’s the best pumpkin patch near Seattle if your goal is incredible Instagram photos.
And their pumpkin field is also smaller, so you don’t have to haul pumpkins (and kids) very far at the end of your day.
Plus, they have amazing items for sale that you can’t find in other places. It’s a great spot to stock up on fall favorites or start Christmas shopping.

Follow Their Instagram Account
The best way to prepare for your trip to Gordon Skagit Farms is to follow their Instagram account. That’s where they release the first images of their showrooms and any rare or unique pumpkins they grew this year.
I’d suggest starting to look at it in mid-September when they start posting fall photos. It also helps if you’re figuring out clothing for photos there.
When to go to Gordon Skagit Farms
Gordon Skagit Farms is open daily from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. through October.
As with most pumpkin patches in Washington State, it’s less crowded on weekdays. But, I know that can be difficult for families with school-age kids.
If you are going to this Skagit pumpkin patch on the weekend and plan to take photos, I’d suggest arriving between 4 pm-5 pm. There should be fewer families with little kids, and the lighting will be pretty amazing.
Pumpkin Patch Clothing Ideas
Okay, so I’m a bit obsessed about taking photos at the pumpkin patch. I usually dress the whole family in plaid and jeans.
You can totally go matchy-matchy and have everyone wear the same plaid shirt. Or you can have several different colored plaid shirts. That’s usually what we do.
If plaid isn’t your thing, try dressing in fall neutrals (like browns, greys, blues, greens, etc). Just avoid orange. You don’t want to blend into the background too much.
And, it’s always cute to have younger kids wear Halloween costumes.
What to Bring to Gordon Skagit Farms
- A camera for taking pictures of the pumpkins and pumpkin patch activities.
- A change of clothes, just in case it starts raining or your kids get muddy.
- Comfortable shoes or boots that will protect your feet from all of the dirt, mud, and rocks on the ground.
- Extra money in case you want to buy anything from vendors at the pumpkin patch.
- And finally, don’t forget your sense of adventure because after all this is why we go to pumpkin patches every year 🙂

Yes! Unless you are going to a fall festival (like the Harvest Festival at Tulip Town), pumpkin patches are one of the best free things to do in the fall. However, there might be a fee associated with hayrides, games, food, and other pumpkin patch activities.
The mini pumpkins are usually $1 each. Pumpkins for pies are usually $2-$4 each. Regular carving pumpkins are priced by weight. They are usually $0.50-$0.60 per pound.
