Planning a trip to Cabo San Lucas and want to make sure you capture the most amazing photos of your family while you’re there?

Los Cabos is one of the most beautiful places in the world for family photos, and our photographer knows all the best spots.

We recently did a Flytographer photo shoot in Cabo and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

A professional photographer who knows all the secrets can help ensure that you get amazing photos without any random people in them. And they’ll probably save you a lot of time wandering around trying to find those spots yourself.

Los Cabos Photography FAQs

What are the most Instagrammable places in Cabo?

There are TONS of cute places to take photos in Los Cabos. A few top spots include Mission San Jose del Cabo, the Marina, the Arch of Cabo San Lucas, and the flags in San Jose del Cabo.

What are the best Cabo San Lucas excursions?

If you’re looking to take Cabo photos while on a Mexican adventure, I suggest going on a boat ride (either snorkeling or to see whale sharks), going horseback riding on the beach, doing an ATV tour, or heading on a day trip to La Paz.

Is Cabo safe?

If you want to leave your Cabo resort, you’ll probably be safe as long as you exercise a few precautions. Make sure to keep your camera close to you (especially if it looks expensive), don’t show off a wad of cash, and be careful walking alone a night (or taking a taxi/Uber alone).

Are Cabo Family Photos Worth It?

As soon as we booked our multi-generational trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico I knew I wanted to book a Cabo family photo shoot.

It was a great opportunity to not only get photos of our immediate family, but also photos of my kids and their cousins, and photos with grandparents.

Plus, having Cabo as a backdrop isn’t too shabby!

Our Cabo San Lucas Photoshoot

We met up with our photographer Diana in the Arts District in Cabo. We chose this route because it said it was colorful and fun. And boy, it did not disappoint!

We met at a local church and then walked up and down the streets. There were lots of colorful picado decorations hanging above the streets. And so many shops selling cute souvenirs, clothing items, and artwork.

The pace of our photo shoot in Cabo was nice and relaxed. And we got to explore areas of Cabo San Lucas that we might not have gone to on our own.

Our Cabo photographer even stopped into a restaurant that was closed in order to use their gorgeous courtyard as a private photography space. It was amazing!

By the end of the shoot, we were having such a great time with Diana that we actually all enjoyed brunch together afterward.

Why You Should Hire a Cabo San Lucas Photographer Through Flytographer

1. SECRET INSIDER TIPS

We’ve used Flytographer all over the world and they ALWAYS know the best photo spots. It’s often someplace that I wouldn’t have found myself but the photos turn out awesome.

It was so cool to have permission to enter an authentic hacienda-style restaurant to take photos without anyone else around.

And we were able to ask our photographers for restaurant recommendations as well as what resorts are worth staying at during our next trip.

2. POSING HELP

While I love taking fun photos of my kids when we travel, I’m not comfortable being in front of the camera myself.

It’s like I forget how to look “normal” and I end up doing the same things with my hands, standing the same way, and even smiling the same. You might as well just copy and paste the same pose in every photo.

The photographers at Flytographer always know just what to do with me. And I’m so appreciative!

They come up with simple poses for us to do so our photos look natural despite being forced into awkward positions on camera! This also helps relax my kiddos. We did a lot of piggyback rides during our Cabo photo shoot.

After I saw the photos from our first Flytographer shoot, I realized how much of a difference their expert guidance made. And some of my favorite photos are when they have us do activities during the shoot so we look natural and spontaneous.

3. CAN LEAVE YOUR GEAR AT HOME

Usually, when we travel, my husband debates bringing his huge camera bag with his heavy camera and multiple lenses. He usually only uses it for a fraction of the time we’re on the trip.

So, it’s nice to know that we’re guaranteed to have a set of “nice” family photos so he doesn’t feel guilty lightening his load by leaving his gear at home. Plus, he doesn’t have to worry about it getting lost or stolen.

4. THEY ARE FUN + EASY!

We did a lot of tickle fights, piggyback rides, shoulder back rides, and other fun arrangements. But, we still managed shots of each family, group shots, etc.

We ended our shoot by stealing a tip from our London Flytographer and had our kids run and jump in front of the camera!

Top Cabo San Lucas Photography Spots

Arts District

If you’re looking for a quiet neighborhood for your family photos in Cabo, the Arts District is a great option. We booked this route because it seemed to highlight the arts/culture of Mexico. It’s perfect if you’re staying in San Jose del Cabo.

Downtown Cabo San Lucas

If you’re staying near Downtown, this might be the perfect route for you. You’ll get to wander through downtown Cabo and pose in front of the cute marina, see local handicrafts, and explore the vibrant streets.

Monumentos Beach

Who doesn’t love a good beach backdrop? This one includes the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas, which is pretty iconic.

How to Book Affordable Cabo Photographers

While we’ve used a lot of different vacation photographers throughout the years, some of my most memorable experiences have been through Flytographer.

Basically, it’s a concierge vacation photography website where you can find photographers almost anywhere in the world, including Los Cabos. That’s how we found Diana. Find the best prices here.

Flytographer makes it really simple to pick the perfect Cabo family photographer. You can find out all about their photography style, secret places to take photos, and even scroll through their online portfolio before you book your shoot!

And Flytographer’s booking process is simple and quick — just pick your preferred dates with a click of a button.

They will then check availability for you so that there’s no stress involved in selecting an available date or time slot when they get back to you with more information on what works best for them!

What I love most about Flytographer is that they are FAST! We sometimes receive our photos before the end of our trip! I love looking at them on our flight home.

What to Wear for Cabo Family Pictures

Of course, you can totally wear whatever you want for your Cabo family photos. But, I know some people like to get ideas, so I’m listing a few options to add to your Mexico packing list to make your photos look cohesive.

Pastels

If you are doing your Cabo photography session in town or by the water, the best color palette is pastels. We usually do a variety of pastel pink, baby blue, seafoam green, pale yellow, and light purple.

For this photo shoot in Mexico, I wore a light purple dress and my guys wore shorts and button-down shirts.

Neutrals

Another option is to stick with neutral colors. This works well if people wear a combination of white, tan/khaki, and blue. It makes a nice contrast to the vibrant background.

All White

My Mother-in-Law was debating wearing a bright pink dress, but I’m glad she ended up going with the white dress. It looked so pretty against the colorful backdrops of Cabo San Lucas.

It would have looked really pretty to have everyone where white because we would have all stood out with the colorful backdrop of Cabo.

5 Tips for Getting Awesome Cabo Family Pictures Every Time

1. DO YOUR HAIR AND MAKEUP

It’s really awesome if you are able to schedule your photos for right when the park opens. This way, you can do your hair and makeup at the hotel and feel your best. But, that’s not always possible.

I know it can be tricky to look your best after a day of snorkeling or cruising, but it really helps if you can take a few moments to “clean up”.

You can either plan to go back to your hotel to freshen up or block out some time to head to a local restroom so you can re-apply makeup and re-do your hair.

2. WATCH POSING VIDEOS

I know that I just raved about Flytographer’s posing abilities, but I always think it’s a smart idea to have as many tools as possible.

That way, you’ll have a few solid “go-to” poses you can try out when you need to change things up.

One of my friends suggested watching posing videos on YouTube to help us figure out simple poses that still look natural yet confident!

This is one of my favorite posing videos because it breaks down a few easy poses that anyone can do.

Watching how-to pose videos has helped me figure out what to do with my hands, where to look, and how many ways there are to flatter your body.

Not only that but you can get ideas on how to interact with your kids on camera so it looks carefree.

3. GET PHOTOS WITH YOUR PARTNER

Cabo San Lucas is a romantic destination, so don’t forget to get a few photos without your kiddos.

I always make a point to let our vacation photographers know that I want to make sure to get a few shots of just me and my husband. These usually end up being some of my favorite photos.

And when you think about it, this might be your best chance of getting any decent photos with your partner during your entire trip.

We were able to sneak in a few while our kids were hanging out with their cousins.

4. COME UP WITH A SHOT LIST

One of the most important things that you can do for your Cabo photographer is to make it clear what you envision for the shoot. This includes the photography style and family combinations.

We had a multi-generational photo shoot so I wanted to make sure to get photos of just the grandkids, grandkids with the grandparents, etc.

Flytographer asks a lot of great questions before your shoot to get you thinking about what you’re looking for, so that way your photographer will be on the same page as you.

You’ll also want to think about your photo location and if you’re picturing something specific (like walking on the beach or getting shots with a Mexican treat).

If you’re a visual person, it can help to scroll Instagram and create a folder of your favorite photos of OTHER families so your photographer can help you replicate some of the ideas.

5. USE PROPS

One last tip for getting the best Cabo San Lucas family photos is to include props.

Kids tend to relax a bit when they are holding something or doing an activity. It helps avoid the awkward “cheese” face so many kids pull as they get older. Plus, it’s a way they can put their own spin on the photos.

Some ideas include musical instruments, toys, straw hats, or a cool souvenir they picked up on the trip.

Oh, and food always works!

Usually, we bribe our kids with a special treat at the end of the photoshoots. And we give it to them right at the end.

You could do popsicles, ice cream cones, frozen mocktails, tacos, etc depending on where you are taking photos. These make up some of my favorite photos of my kids!
