Then we walked into the breakfast room and it was… three types of cereal, some bruised bananas, and coffee that tasted like cardboard.
My 6th grader took one look and said “Can we just go to McDonald’s?”
$47 at McDonald’s later (because Disneyland-area McDonald’s prices are insane), I realized that “free breakfast” doesn’t automatically mean you’re saving money.

Why Free Breakfast Actually Matters (Even Though I Didn’t Think It Would)
I used to roll my eyes at my husband for obsessing over hotel breakfast. Like, who cares? Just grab something quick.
I used to think free breakfast was just a nice bonus. Then we did the actual math on our September 2025 trip.
Breakfast at Storytellers Cafe (which isn’t even fancy) was $19 per adult and $13 per kid. For the four of us, that’s $64 before tip. Over four nights, we spent $256 just on breakfast.
If we’d stayed at a hotel with free breakfast, that’s $256 back in our budget. Even factoring in that some hotels charge $15-20 more per night for parking, you’re still saving $200+ over a 4-night trip.
But honestly? The money savings aren’t even the best part. It’s 7 AM. Your kids just woke up. Someone definitely spilled something on their Mickey shirt already. You still need to pack the backpack with sunscreen and snacks.
The last thing you want is to figure out WHERE to eat breakfast.
Walking downstairs, grabbing food, and getting out the door by 7:45 to make rope drop? That’s the real value. The money is just a bonus.
Although… if the hotel breakfast is actually terrible (like that cereal and banana situation I mentioned), you end up spending money anyway. So the breakfast quality matters.
What Actually Matters When Picking a Disneyland Hotel (I Learned This the Hard Way)
Location is everything. And I mean EVERYTHING.
We once stayed at what looked like an amazing deal 1.5 miles from Disneyland. Free breakfast, free parking, great reviews! Except walking 1.5 miles with tired kids at 10 PM after a 14-hour park day was absolutely miserable.
My 3rd grader literally sat down on the sidewalk and refused to walk anymore. We ended up Ubering back to the hotel, which kind of defeated the purpose of the “free” parking.
Now I won’t stay anywhere more than a 15-minute walk. Honestly, even 15 minutes is pushing it with young kids, but it’s doable.
The breakfast quality thing is tricky because hotels can be sneaky. They’ll say “complimentary breakfast” but not specify WHAT that means.
I’ve learned to look at recent reviews (like from 2025 or 2026, not 2022) and search for the word “breakfast” to see what people actually say. If multiple reviews mention “just cereal and toast,” that tells you everything.
One hotel we stayed at claimed to have a “hot breakfast” but it was literally just waffle makers and some heat-lamp scrambled eggs that tasted like rubber.
My kids ate the waffles and were hungry again by 10 AM, so we ended up buying corn dogs at the park anyway.
The best hotel breakfasts have: actual protein (eggs, sausage, bacon), fruit that isn’t brown, decent coffee for the adults, and options for picky eaters. If your kid will only eat Frosted Flakes for breakfast, make sure the hotel has cereal.
This sounds obvious but I’ve been to “continental breakfasts” that didn’t have cereal at all.

Best Western Plus Park Place Inn – The One Right Across from Disneyland

This is THE hotel if you want to be as close as humanly possible to Disneyland without actually sleeping in the park.
You’re literally across Harbor Boulevard from the main entrance. I can see the Matterhorn from our room window when we stay here.
The breakfast runs 6:30-9:30 AM and it’s legit good. Hot scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles you make yourself, fruit, yogurt, cereal.
My kids load up on waffles and sausage. I grab fruit and terrible hotel coffee that I doctor up with way too much cream. It gets the job done.
Yes, parking is $20/night (as of our January 2026 stay). Yes, some rooms feel dated. Yes, it’s more expensive than hotels further away.
But you know what? Being able to walk back to the hotel at 2 PM for a nap and then walk back to the park at 5 PM without dealing with parking or shuttles is worth every penny.
This is especially true if you have kids under 8 who genuinely need that midday break.
We’ve stayed here probably three times. It’s not fancy. But it’s reliable and that location cannot be beat.
Hyatt House at Anaheim Resort/Convention Center – Use Your Points Here

Okay, this one has the best free breakfast on this entire list. I’m not even exaggerating.
They have an OMELET BAR. Like, someone will make you an actual omelet with real eggs and whatever fillings you want. There’s also the regular buffet stuff but the omelets alone make this worth it.
It’s about a 10-minute walk to Disneyland. Maybe 12 minutes if you’re walking with little kids who stop every five seconds to look at lizards (which, relatable).
The rooms are really nice. Like, actually nice. They have full kitchens in the suites, which we’ve used to make sandwiches for park lunches and save even more money.
The rooftop pool is great for afternoons when you need a break from the parks but don’t want to just sit in your room.
If you have Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred, this is the hotel to use your points at. We’ve done that twice and it feels like such a win.
Only downside: parking costs extra. I want to say it was $25/night last time but I could be wrong. Still annoying though.
Desert Palms Hotel & Suites – The Budget-Friendly One

This is where we stay when we’re trying to save money but still want to be walkable to the parks. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk depending on how fast your kids move.
The hot breakfast buffet is solid. They updated it in 2026 to run until 10 AM instead of 9:30, which parents appreciate because not everyone can get down there by 9. Eggs, sausage, potatoes, waffles, the usual. It’s not fancy but it’s filling and free.
What I really like about this hotel: they have suite options with bunk beds, which my boys LOVE.
There’s a CVS literally across the street, which is handy when you realize you forgot sunscreen or someone needs Tylenol. And there’s a 7-Eleven on the corner for late-night snacks.
The walk to Disneyland means crossing Harbor Boulevard, which is fine but just something to know. The hotel itself isn’t the newest property and some rooms could use updating. But for the price and location, it works.
Parking costs extra here too. I think we paid $15/night in October 2025 but prices might have gone up.
Home2Suites by Hilton Anaheim Resort – If You Have Hilton Points

About 12 minutes from Disneyland. The breakfast buffet is good and starts early enough for rope drop.
All the rooms have kitchenettes with full-size fridges, which is perfect if you want to keep milk, sandwich stuff, or leftovers.
We used this hotel for a longer 6-night stay in summer 2024 and the kitchen saved us SO much money.
We’d make breakfast sandwiches for park lunches and keep drinks cold. Pool and hot tub were nice for evening downtime.
Valet parking costs extra. The walk is slightly longer than the closest hotels but totally manageable.
Best Western Plus Anaheim Inn – The To-Go Breakfast Option

This one does a to-go breakfast, which is actually perfect if you’re trying to get to the parks early.
You grab it and eat on the way. It’s not hot food though, so manage your expectations. Think: muffins, fruit, yogurt, granola bars.
Good location near Anaheim GardenWalk. The rooms have fridges and microwaves. Parking costs extra (sensing a theme here?).
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Anaheim Resort Area

Standard Holiday Inn Express breakfast, which means it’s consistent and decent. Nothing amazing but nothing terrible either. About 10 minutes walking to Disneyland.
The beds have memory foam, which I genuinely appreciated after walking 25,000+ steps at the parks. Swimming pool. Valet parking with a surcharge.
Best Western Plus Stovall’s Inn – Multiple Pools

This hotel has TWO outdoor pools, a kids’ pool, AND two hot tubs. If pool time is important to your family, this is a good pick. Free to-go breakfast.
About 15-20 minute walk to Disneyland, which is the longest on this list.
The walk doesn’t bother us anymore but when my kids were 4 and 7, it would have been too far. Know your family’s limits.
Anaheim Islander Inn and Suites – Free Parking!
Only 34 rooms so this books up FAST. But it has free parking, which is rare for Disneyland hotels. Continental breakfast. About 16 minutes walking to the parks.
If you can get a room here and the walk works for you, the free parking alone makes it worth it.
Days Inn by Wyndham Anaheim West – Further But Cheaper
This is more of a drive to the parks. Not walking distance. But it’s cheaper than the hotels right by Disneyland and has free parking plus free to-go breakfast.
If you’re planning to drive to the parks anyway or use the ART bus system, this could work for a tight budget.
Quality Inn & Suites Anaheim At The Park – Has a Playground
Full hot breakfast. There’s a playground on-site, which is great for kids who need to burn energy. Multiple pools. Free parking. About 15 minutes walking to Disneyland.
Not the newest property but serviceable for the price point.
Stuff I Wish Someone Had Told Me Before Booking
Book early. Like, MONTHS early for peak times. I made the mistake of waiting until 6 weeks before our spring break trip in 2024 and everything good was sold out. We ended up at a hotel that was… fine… but not what I wanted.
Actually, that’s not entirely true. We did find Best Western Park Place at the last minute because someone canceled. But we got lucky. Don’t count on getting lucky.
Check the reviews from the last few months, not from three years ago. I’ve seen hotels that had amazing reviews in 2023 completely go downhill by 2025 after changing management.
Search specifically for “breakfast” in the reviews to see what people say about the actual food quality.
Here’s something I didn’t realize at first: some hotels advertise “hot breakfast” but what they mean is “we have waffle makers.” That’s technically hot but if your kids don’t eat waffles, you’re stuck.
Read the actual menu or look at review photos to see what they’re serving.
Parking costs add up. I used to ignore this when comparing hotels and then get annoyed at checkout.
A hotel that’s $20/night cheaper but charges $25 for parking while another includes parking… well, do the math. Although honestly, I still sometimes forget to factor this in.
If you have young kids (under 6), prioritize location over everything else. The walk back to the hotel when they’re exhausted matters more than having the fanciest breakfast.
We learned this the hard way on the trip where my son sat down on the sidewalk and refused to walk.
For older kids and teens, being slightly further away is totally fine. My 6th grader will walk a mile without complaining as long as he gets his iPad time at the end.
Which One Should You Actually Book?
This depends so much on your family that I hesitate to give a blanket answer, but okay fine, here’s what I’d do:
If money isn’t super tight and you want maximum park time: Best Western Plus Park Place Inn. Yes, it’s more expensive. Yes, parking costs extra. Yes, the rooms aren’t fancy.
But you’re ACROSS THE STREET from Disneyland and the breakfast is solid. Being able to walk back easily for midday breaks is game-changing with kids. We’ve probably stayed here the most out of any hotel on this list.
If you’re trying to save money but still want walkable: Desert Palms. The breakfast is good, the suites with bunk beds are fun for kids, and the walk is doable.
It’s not as nice as Park Place but it costs significantly less. We stayed here in October and saved about $400 over four nights compared to Park Place.
If you have points to burn: Hyatt House for Chase Sapphire points, Home2Suites for Hilton points. Both have good breakfasts and nice rooms. The Hyatt House breakfast is legitimately better though.
Here’s the thing: I’ve stayed at all of these except Days Inn (because we don’t want to drive to the parks). They all work.
Some are better than others but none of them are terrible. Pick based on your priorities: location, price, breakfast quality, or whether you have points to use.
Also, sometimes you just have to book what’s available, especially if you’re planning last-minute. A hotel with free breakfast that has availability is better than no hotel at all.
Questions People Always Ask Me
Do these hotels still offer free breakfast in 2026? Yes, I verified all of them in early February 2026. But policies change, so double-check when you book.
What if the free breakfast is bad? Should I still book the hotel? Depends. If the location is amazing (like Park Place right across from Disney), maybe yes because the location compensates.
If the hotel is far away AND has bad breakfast, probably not worth it.
How much money does free breakfast actually save? For my family of four over a 4-night trip, we save about $200-250 on breakfast alone. More if you factor in time savings from not having to find a breakfast spot every morning.
Can I walk to Disneyland from these hotels with little kids? From some of them, yes. Best Western Park Place, Desert Palms, Hyatt House, and Holiday Inn Express are all manageable walks even with young kids.
The ones that are 15+ minutes might be tough with kids under 5.
