My family travels a lot and I’m always on the hunt for toys that will occupy my 3-year-old. We tend to take small toys on airplanes. We also like to have toys that will provide hours of fun in hotel rooms. When Magformers offered to send me their TMNT Half Shell Heroes 38-piece Set, I excitedly accepted.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a big deal for those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s. My husband geeked out when he saw the set arrive in the mail. He told our preschooler the names of the characters and who they were.

I was impressed how focused my 3-year-old was as he assembled his first house.
My 3-year-old was mostly interested in the magnetic component of the set. He’s been fascinated by magnets because of his wooden train set. This set comes with 2 play mats that encourage kids to match the Magformers to their spot on the mat. Then, kids can use the magnetic power to pull the shapes up into 3D structures. Once he realized he could build 3D shapes, he went to town.

I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down!
We’ve been reading the Three Little Pigs a lot lately, so it didn’t surprise me that he wanted to build a house. He then pretended to be the Big Bad Wolf and try to blow it down. But, just like the house of bricks, the Magformers house stood firm!

The Magformers are the perfect size for little hands and feature a “click” sound when they connect.
This is a set that will evolve with my son as he gets older. Right now, he can match the characters to their color shapes and place the character cards into square inserts. Soon, he can interchange the characters to tell his own TMNT story and build Magformers Magic Ball, Turtle Tower, House, Rocket, Castles and more!
What I like most about Magformers is that all Magformers are interchangeable. We can add more sets as we go. My friend’s son has 4 sets and he’s built the most amazing structures! When playtime is over, my son can use the magnetic power to simply stack and store.
Magformers sent me this product for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
