How to Plan a Perfect Day at Epcot with Kids

Sharing is caring!

I’ve been dreaming of exploring Epcot since I first heard about it as a child. And let me tell you, visiting Epcot with kids lived up to my high expectations!
This post about 1 day at Epcot with kids was written by Disney travel expert Marcie Cheung and contains affiliate links which means if you purchase something from one of my affiliate links, I may earn a small commission that goes back into maintaining this blog.

Planning a visit to Epcot with kids can initially seem daunting, especially when you hear that Epcot is more focused on education and culture. However, our family found Epcot to be one of our favorite parks at Walt Disney World!

With a variety of engaging Epcot attractions, thrilling rides, kid-friendly dining options, and opportunities to meet beloved Disney characters, there is so much for children to enjoy.

From the Gran Fiesta Tour in the Mexico Pavilion to the fascinating Future World, there are countless activities tailored for young adventurers. Additionally, attractions like Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Journey Into Imagination with Figment add to the excitement.

The World Showcase pavilions offer educational experiences, teaching kids about different cultures in an interactive and fun way.

In this guide, we’ll share our top tips and experiences to help you make the most out of your day at Epcot with kids, ensuring a memorable and magical visit for the entire family.

What To Do in Epcot with Kids?

When we were planning our first trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida, almost everyone I talked to said Epcot was mainly for adults. I rarely hear say that Epcot with kids would be a good idea.

That made me a bit nervous since it was the park I was most excited to explore!

I have to say that after experiencing Epcot with my 2-year-old and 5-year-old, it was one of our favorite Parks!

BEST EPCOT RIDES

People think Epcot isn’t kid-friendly because there aren’t as many rides as the other parks.

But the rides they do have were actually some of our 5-year-old’s favorite rides at Walt Disney World!

Mission: SPACE

I grabbed 2 FastPasses for Mission: SPACE, and after my oldest did it with my husband, he convinced my mom and me to join him (the wait was only 5 minutes.)

What’s cool about this ride is that there are two missions. The green one is less intense. I don’t like scary rides, and I wouldn’t consider them scary at all.

Spaceship Earth

I’m actually a little surprised that this was also one of my son’s favorite rides at Epcot.

Basically, you slowly ride through displays showing how communication has evolved from the caveman to the present day.

Both my kids were fascinated and had questions after.

Turtle Talk with Crush

We did this at Disneyland a couple of years ago when our oldest was 2 years old, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting much.

Well, this was WAY cooler than I remembered, and the improv seriously cracked us up!

It also helped that my son was part of the show (he told Crush that he flew to Disney World all by himself, so naturally, he had a lot of hilarious questions about that!)

After that, the kids spent a long time playing in Bruce’s Shark World.

Frozen Ever After

I’m including this even though we didn’t get to experience it on this trip. I spent every free moment trying to score FastPasses but couldn’t make it happen.

However, I’d be remiss not to add it to my list of kid-friendly rides at Epcot.

Basically, it’s a boat ride where you can see scenes from Disney’s Frozen. What’s not to love about that? Plus, you can meet Anna and Elsa right next door.

EPCOT KID-FRIENDLY DINING

Since people kept telling me that Epcot was geared toward adults rather than kids, I was worried that the restaurants wouldn’t be as kid-friendly as the other Parks.

Again, I was happily mistaken!

Rose & Crown Dining Room

We had lunch reservations at the Rose & Crown in the United Kingdom Pavilion. My 5-year-old was stoked to get a kids’ menu with crayons!

But the real treat was when our server brought their milk with light-up ice cubes inside!

The Shepherd's Pie at Rose and Crown pub was the perfect stop at Epcot with kids because they had an extensive kid's menu! #epcot #roseandcrown #britishfood #epcot #waltdisneyworld
Shepherd’s Pie is one of my favorite British dishes, and this one was super tasty! Photo credit: Marcie Cheung

I ordered the Shepherd’s Pie, and it was really tasty! That’s my go-to order for British food, and it was on par with what I’ve had in the past.

We also ordered a Scotch Egg because we’ve been hearing about them for years but never had an opportunity to try them. They were a hit!

For the kids, they easily shared the Cheesy Pasta and English Trifle.

See the full Rose & Crown Pub menu here.

Chefs de France

The restaurant I was most looking forward to was Chefs de France because I love, love, LOVE French food!

We went to Paris with our kids last year, and while the food was excellent, the restaurants were fairly small (with tables right next to each other), and it was a bit stressful eating out with little kids.

Chefs de France makes the whole experience very kid-friendly!

It’s the largest French restaurant we’ve been to, and it was amazing to have so much space between the tables.

The Boeuf Bourgignon at Chefs de France is an awesome dish at Epcot's France Pavilion and is a nice restaurant at Epcot with kids. #epcot #francepavilion #waltdisneyworld #disneyworld
I’m so happy I had leftovers from my Chefs de France dinner! Photo credit: Marcie Cheung

And the food was really flavorful! I ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon, which was served over linguine, and I practically licked the plate. It was so good! This was the first time I’ve had it on noodles, and I think I’m going to try it at home!

Again, the kids got menus with crayons, which was very exciting for them!

The kids shared the pasta with ham, which was a generous helping. We took the leftovers home and served it to them for lunch the next day.

Don’t worry, there are way more interesting kid options than just macaroni! See the full menu here.

Save room for dessert! I ordered the Meringue Aux Fruits Rouges and it was incredible! It was fresh fruit on a crisp, airy meringue cookie topped with cream, raspberry sauce and strawberry sorbet on the side. Sooooo gooooood!

But those are just the ones we ate at. In fact, we almost added another day at Epcot just to get some more tasty food!

You can see the full list of Epcot restaurants here.

EPCOT CHARACTERS

I love that at Epcot, you can get a FastPass to meet Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy all in one area. We were in and out within 10 minutes!

Plus, our kids met Pluto when we walked into the Park. And Donald Duck is stationed in the Mexico area.

If you're going to Epcot with kids, you'll definitely want to stop by Pixar's Inside Out character meet and greet with Joy and Sadness. #insideout #pixar #epcot #sadness #waltdisneyworld #disneyworld
We were impressed with our emotional and powerful meet and greet with Sadness! Photo credit: Marcie Cheung

Epcot is also the only place to meet Joy and Sadness from Pixar’s Inside Out and Baymax from Big Hero 6.

We also saw Mary Poppins and Alice (from Alice in Wonderland) hanging out in Great Britain.

But I think Epcot is the best place to take photos with Disney Princesses!

Which Princesses are at Epcot?

The best place to meet Anna and Elsa from Disney's Frozen at Walt Disney World is the Norway Pavilion at Epcot, and it's a must-stop attraction at Epcot with kids. #epcot #waltdisneyworld #frozen #disneyworld #annaandelsa
Our kids didn’t mind the line to meet Anna and Elsa at Epcot. Photo credit: Darren Cheung

Mulan: It makes perfect sense that she’s in the China Pavilion! When we were there, she was standing on a bridge in a garden, and she looked stunning!

Belle: You can find Belle in the France Pavilion. When we were there in December, she was in her red and gold holiday dress right next to the stage!

Aurora: When Belle isn’t in the France Pavilion, Princess Aurora takes her place.

Anna & Elsa: Head to the Norway Pavilion to take photos with Anna and Elsa inside their palace. Even waiting in line is interesting because there are so many things to look at!

Snow White: I didn’t remember that Snow White was a German tale until I saw she was meeting guests in the German Pavilion near the Wishing Well!

Jasmine: Princess Jasmine spends her time in the incredibly detailed Morocco Pavilion.

Insider tip: This is a great Park to pack a few costumes for your kids because the backdrops are stunning, and the natural lighting is perfect for frame-worthy photos!

If you don’t want to wait in line to meet Princesses at Epcot, you can book a character meal at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in the Norway Pavilion.

You’ll meet several Disney Princesses, but you never know which ones will be there. If you have your heart set on meeting someone in particular, standing in line at their meet-and-greet spot is best.

Epcot at Christmas

I’m happy that we spent our day at Epcot with kids during Christmas!

Not only were the countries in Epcot decorated for the holidays, but they featured Christmas and Hanukkah presentations!

If you're heading to Epcot with Kids at Christmas, make sure to stop by the Norway Pavilion to see the Norwegian Santa presentation at Walt Disney World #epcot #waltdisneyworld #norwaypavilion #norwegian #santa
We thought the Norwegian Santa presentation was hilarious and engaging! Photo credit: Marcie Cheung

Make sure to grab a Times Guide to get all the times of the holiday presentations because many of them line up, so you can see several back-to-back.

Plus, each country offers special treats and souvenirs you can only find during the holidays.

Insider tip: We found that Epcot was the least crowded park during the holidays, so schedule it as a nice break in the middle of your trip!

Kidcot Fun Stops at Epcot

When I was researching our trip to Epcot with kids, I kept hearing parents talk about the Kidcot Fun Stops.

From what I gather, each Pavilion offers art activities for kids to do while cast members talk about their country. Then, kids can put all their artwork in a Ziploc suitcase bag as a free souvenir.

Since we went during the holidays, there were so many amazing programs going on that we didn’t have time to do any of the Kidcot Fun Stops, so I don’t have any personal tips or tricks.

But you can read all about it on the Walt Disney World site here.

How We Spent 1 Day in Epcot with Kids

Ok, now that I’ve given you my tips, I want to show you exactly how we spent one day in Epcot with kids during the holidays:

OUR DAY AT EPCOT WITH KIDS: WHAT WE DID IN THE MORNING

We got there about 15 minutes after the Park opened. My husband and kids went to take photos with Pluto while I hit the restroom.

At that point, I desperately needed some caffeine, so we grabbed coffee and croissants at Starbucks before heading to meet Joy and Sadness. The wait was about 30 minutes, and it’s right across from Baymax (so you could divide and conquer.)

Then, we wanted to start exploring the World Showcase when it opened.

How to Plan a Perfect Day at Epcot with Kids: We had to get a family photo in front of the Epcot globe with a Disney PhotoPass photographer to add to our Memory Maker at Walt Disney World in Florida #epcot #waltdisneyworld #disneyworld #memorymaker #photopass
We loved all the Disney PhotoPass locations at Epcot! Photo credit: Disney PhotoPass Photographer

We grabbed a quick PhotoPass photo in front of the Epcot geosphere before heading to the Norway Pavilion.

The line to meet Anna and Elsa wasn’t long, so we decided to do that. We left our autographed books in the stroller, but they were so nice. They had blank paper to sign so the boys could add them to their books later!

After that, we did a PhotoPass family photo in front of the Norway stage, which was all decorated.

We met a guest there who told us all about the holiday presentations and let us know the Norway one was starting momentarily. So, we stayed for the Norway Santa presentation, which was hilarious!

If you're heading to Epcot with kids, make sure to grab a FastPass for the Epcot Character Spot where you can meet Mickey, Minnie and Goofy! #waltdisneyworld #disneyworld #goofy #epcot
Goofy thought it would be funny to put up my sons’ hoods for the photo! Photo credit: Darren Cheung

That gave us just enough time to use our FastPasses for the Epcot Character Spot before lunch. We met Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy in record time, and they were so playful with the boys!

On our walk to Great Britain, we stopped to take photos in the iconic red phone booths (and then explained to our kids about phone booths!)

LUNCH AT ROSE AND CROWN

We had Noon reservations at Rose and Crown. This is an adorable pub in Great Britain, and the food was fantastic!

This was our first opportunity to try a Scotch Egg, and it was not what we had expected! Photo credit: Darren Cheung

My kids were impressed with their kid’s menu and the light-up plastic ice cubes in their milk.

Confession: we did take the ice cubes home with us and they are still delighting our kids on a daily basis!

OUR DAY AT EPCOT WITH KIDS: WHAT WE DID IN THE AFTERNOON

We looked at our Times Guide and decided to do the full loop in the World Showcase.

Since we were already in Great Britain, we walked to France to see their Pere Noel presentation. It was great, and he stayed to take photos.

We tried getting in line to meet Belle, dressed up for Christmas, but they closed the line.

The Epcot pavilions are so cool that we wanted to spend some time exploring each one. So, we walked around France, Italy, Germany, Morocco, and Japan.

If you are looking for a quiet activity at Epcot with kids, this model train display is really cool and perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. #epcot #waltdisneyworld #disneyworld #modeltrain
I have a feeling this model train area gets overlooked by a lot of families. Photo credit: Marcie Cheung

One of the things we saw was a model train that went through a little village. My kids spent a long time watching the trains!

Epcot with kids is more fun with this Chinese Lion Dance presentation at Walt Disney World's China Pavilion at Epcot. #epcot #waltdisneyworld #chinapavilion #disneyworld #liondance
We loved this short Lion Dancing presentation in the China Pavilion! Photo credit: Marcie Cheung

We were excited when we got to China! They had a fun lion dance presentation that my oldest watched while my toddler napped in the stroller.

We also went inside to check out the Disneyland Resort in Shanghai, which looks really amazing! We promptly added it to our bucket list!

School Bread is a holiday treat found at the Norway Pavilion in Epcot with Kids at Walt Disney World and features coconut and cream inside a pastry. #schoolbread #waltdisneyworld #disneyworld #holidaytreats
As soon as I heard about School Bread, I made a note to stop while in the Norway Pavilion! Photo credit: Marcie Cheung

Because I had read a lot of Disney blogs before our trip, I knew how to grab school bread in Norway. It was a not-too-sweet bun with cream and coconut, and it was a perfect afternoon snack!

Then, we had FastPasses for Journey Into Imagination with Figment. It wasn’t my favorite ride, but it ended with a cool play area, and the kids spent a lot of time there.

Plus, there’s a PhotoPass studio between the play area and the gift shop.

For a fun Epcot with kids photo op featuring Disney movies, head to the PhotoPass spot near Journey into Imagination with Figment! #starwars #waltdisneyworld #disneyworld #epcot

They can superimpose your face into a huge array of movie posters and backgrounds. It’s free to do it just for fun, but if you want any of the photos, you’ll have to pay.

We checked the My Disney Experience app and saw that Spaceship Earth only had a 20-minute wait, so we headed there next. Our whole family enjoyed this ride, especially my mom!

Since we hadn’t done it before, we headed to the Baymax photo op so my husband and oldest could get photos.

While in line, we saw that The Seas with Nemo & Friends only had a 5-minute wait, so that was our next stop!

Right next door was Turtle Talk with Crush, which only had a 10-minute wait. The waiting area is in a cool mini aquarium, and the kids were a bit disappointed to leave when they opened the doors!

After, the kids played in Bruce’s Shark World until it was time to head to dinner.

DINNER AT CHEFS DE FRANCE

Our whole family was excited to eat here after walking past this restaurant and exploring the France Pavilion!

It was pouring down, so we were thankful they had a covered waiting area. Our reservation was for 6 pm, and we were seated by 6:15 pm.

The food was delicious, and I could have easily eaten here every day of our trip! Luckily, we had leftovers, so I tasted the flavors again!

OUR DAY AT EPCOT WITH KIDS: WHAT WE DID IN THE EVENING

While waiting for our food, I got my husband and son FastPasses for Mission: SPACE.

They did the ride while I checked out the gift shop nearby.

My oldest had so much fun that he convince my mom and me to ride it one more time. Since it only had a 5 minute wait, we figured why not!

At that point, it was 8:45 pm, and we decided we had better head to the bus to get back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Hotels Near Epcot

If you think you’ll be spending a couple of days at Epcot or are going specifically for the Epcot Food & Wine Festival, you might consider staying at one of the Epcot hotels.

DISNEY’S CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT

This Disney resort is being “reimagined,” and many of the areas, including the food court, have already been renovated.

Their pool has a pirate play area, which is great for young kids!

DISNEY’S BEACH CLUB RESORT

This hotel is an easy walk to Epcot and the Boardwalk and is close to Hollywood Studios. And on their club level, there are complimentary snacks and signature drinks.

Plus, this is where the Minnie Beach Bash Breakfast character meal is, so it is super convenient for families!

Another option is to stay at Disney’s Beach Club Villas.

DISNEY’S YACHT CLUB RESORT

This Disney resort was also recently renovated, and it’s a short walk or boat ride to Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and the Boardwalk.

It sounds like there aren’t as many families with little kids here, so use your judgment to decide if it’s the right hotel for you. But the pool area includes a lazy river!

DISNEY’S BOARDWALK INN

This hotel has a cool Coney Island vibe, and it’s worth spending time just walking around, even if you aren’t staying there.

And it sounds like it’s a great hotel for multi-generational Disney vacations as grandparents can find a lot to do at the resort itself.

Another option is to stay at Disney’s BoardWalk Villas.

WALT DISNEY WORLD DOLPHIN HOTEL

This also has a nice location, just a short walk or boat ride from Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

It’s a more budget-friendly hotel option!

WALT DISNEY WORLD SWAN HOTEL

This hotel is right next to the Dolphin Hotel, and they share some of the same facilities.

Epcot with Kids Wrap-Up

Epcot is not just a diverse park; it’s a treasure trove of experiences for children as well. With unique rides like the Gran Fiesta Tour starring Donald Duck, the excitement of Test Track in World Discovery, and the educational fun of Spaceship Earth, there’s something for every child to enjoy.

Dining at themed restaurants and meeting favorite characters across the World Showcase pavilions adds to the magic of visiting Epcot with kids.

The various character meet-and-greets, such as with Anna and Elsa or Mickey and friends, are often highlights for young visitors.

So, whether you’re exploring the Land Pavilion or catching a show at the Pixar Short Film Festival, Epcot offers endless opportunities for family fun and unforgettable memories.

  1. I used to not like Epcot very much as a kid and now it’s my favorite! I feel like it’s so kid and adult friendly! I love the character meets there, all the food, and the rides are awesome for all ages! I can’t wait to have my own little babe to bring with me one day. 🙂
