Why YOU Should Make Turkey on the Table a Holiday Tradition

My son appreciated reading the book that accompanies the Turkey on the Table.

My oldest is almost 4 years old and I’m just now talking to him about gratitude. We’ve been doing KonMari on his play room and he made some tough choices to give away some of his toys to other kids who could use them. But, when I mentioned that Thanksgiving is a time to talk about the things we are thankful for, he gave me a blank look. That’s when I found Turkey on the Table.

Before we read the book, my son told me the thing he was thankful for was his Transformer toy. With a lot of prompting, he mentioned his family. While we knew that he has incredible opportunities in his life that are just normal in his world, we were still disheartened.

After reading the book, I asked my son if there was anything else he might be thankful for. His eyes lit up and he immediately said, “FOOD!” So, I wrote that on a feather. Then, he smiled and sheepishly said, “My family.” I had already written that down, so asked if there was anything else. He replied, “I thankful for this Turkey!”

It’s a starting point for further conversations about being thankful and expressing gratitude. Turkey on the Table provides a great opportunity for families like your’s to reflect on life and appreciate what makes it wonderful. Plus, it’s such an adorable centerpiece!
