Stitch Fix Kids Unboxing | May 2019
I’ve been a Stitch Fix subscriber for several months now, but after seeing how excited my 5 year old son got when we did a Stitch Fix unboxing, I decided to sign him up for Stitch Fix Kids.
The first thing I had to do was set up his profile.
They asked a lot of questions to determine his size for clothing and shoes. And then they wanted to know what types of graphic tees he likes (is he into dinosaurs or trucks?)
Finally, they showed some example outfits and my son and I marked whether or not he’d like to see something like that in his Stitch Fix Kids box.
We had a great discussion about only saying he likes an outfit if he’d actually wear it. And that it’s okay to appreciate a cool shirt even if it’s not his style.
There was also a section to make a note to his stylist.
I let her know that we’re heading to Disneyland next month and a cruise to Cuba later this summer. I asked for clothing that would work for both destinations and that would look good in photographs.
SAVE $25 ON STITCH FIX And I specifically asked for some “nice” shorts and button down shirts because we’re planning on taking family photos in Havana. So, let’s see what was inside this Stitch Fix Kids unboxing!
See what I thought of my May Stitch Fix Box.

FLAPDOODLES | JOHN WOVEN CARGO PULL ON SHORT
This is a really nice, lightweight buttery yellow short. It’s longer in length than other shorts and has stretch waist so younger kids can easily pull them on and off themselves.
I totally loved this as soon as I pulled it out!
But, that’s because my son currently has a very similar pair (I’m on a yellow kick this year!)
Retail Price: $22.00

What we liked about this Flapdoodles Cargo Pull On Short:
I really appreciated the longer length as my son’s build is tall and lean. He’d get more longevity with this pair than other shorts.
I also liked that they were soft.
What we didn’t like about this Flapdoodles Cargo Pull On Short:
Probably because of the light color, these shorts were a little see-thru. It’s easy to see underwear through them.
My son wasn’t impressed with them because he said he already had that color short!
FINAL VERDICT: Return
SPERRY | SPERRY DECK FIN SHOE
I think the stylist included this pair of shoes because I let her know about some of our family travels. We’re exploring Knott’s Berry Farm and Disneyland next month and I know there will be a lot of walking.
I personally LOVED the look and feel of these shoes.
But, again, we already own similar Sperry shoes and don’t need another pair this year.
Retail Price: $40.00

What we liked about this Sperry Deck Fin Shoe:
The color is so versatile and perfect for summer. It’s easy for these to be “nice” dress shoes with a button down shirt and shorts.
Or, they are great everyday shoes for walking around cities or theme parks.
What we didn’t like about this Sperry Deck Fin Shoe:
My son doesn’t know how to tie his shoes right now, so these shoes would require me to tie them for him. Probably multiple times a day.
My son was bummed that they weren’t “Star Wars shoes.”
FINAL VERDICT: Return
DISNEY | MICKEY SHORT SLEEVE GRAPHIC TEE
This shirt made me smile when we brought it out of the Stitch Fix Kids box!
It has a totally retro, 90’s vibe and would be perfect for our upcoming trip to Disneyland! Plus, it’s super soft and comfortable.
I loved that our stylist put in a Disney shirt because it shows she listened to what we wanted.
Retail Price: $14.00

What we liked about this Disney Graphic Tee:
It felt so cozy and it could be worn during the day or as a pajama top.
It would look great with yellow or teal shorts!
What we didn’t like about this Disney Graphic Tee:
My toddler is actually the one who is obsessed with Mickey, so my oldest tends to avoid clothing that specifically shows Mickey.
This one was a bit too 90s for my taste and I probably wouldn’t have looked twice had I seen it in a store.
FINAL VERDICT: Return
RUMI + RYDER | THE CLASSIC SHORT SLEEVE GRAPHIC TEE
I remember us noting somewhere that we like graphic tees involving space.
My son has been learning about the solar system a lot in preschool and his favorite part of The LEGO Movie 2 is when they are on the spaceships.
He was thrilled to see this shirt in the box!
Retail Price: $18.00

What we liked about this Rumi + Ryder Graphic Tee:
My son loved everything about this shirt and he immediately put it in our “buy” pile.
I liked that there was a note that this shirt was designed specifically for Stitch Fix Kids. That means I’m not going to find it shopping in stores, which makes it feel a bit more special.
Oh, and it glows in the dark!
What we didn’t like about this Rumi + Ryder Graphic Tee:
The $18 price tag is a bit more than I’d usually spend on a tee shirt. I was thinking it’d would be closer to $14.
FINAL VERDICT: Keep
PX | GIOVANNI SHORT SLEEVE HENLEY STRIPE TEE
When we pulled this shirt out of the box, both my son and I felt “meh” about it.
I totally see that the stylist grabbed this because it’s a mix between a tee shirt and a button down shirt and it’s a pretty neutral shirt.
Retail Price: $14.00

What we liked about this PX Henley Stripe Tee:
I like that it has blue and orange because it’s easy to wear shorts in that color to punch up the outfit.
What we didn’t like about this PX Henley Stripe Tee:
It was just boring.
FINAL VERDICT: Return
SOVEREIGN CODE | THEO SHORT SLEEVE ALL OVER PRINT WOVEN SHIRT
If you watch our Stitch Fix Kids unboxing video, you’ll hear my son actually squeal when he pulled out this shirt.
I’m glad he did because I squealed inside!
Retail Price: $24.00

What we liked about this Sovereign Code Woven Shirt:
The colors are fantastic! He can easily wear this shirt with yellow, blue, orange, or khaki shorts.
It feels perfect for our Caribbean cruise, walking around Havana, Cuba, or for next time we go to Kauai.
The sizing is loose enough that he should be able to wear it all of this summer and for some of the warm weather destinations we have coming up later this year.
And the quality of the shirt is good enough that we should be able to save this for our toddler to wear in a few years.
What we didn’t like about this Sovereign Code Woven Shirt:
The price of $24.00 feels a bit steep to me. I know I’ve seen this brand at Nordstrom Rack and I’m wondering if I could find this on sale at the end of summer.
FINAL VERDICT: Keep
ANDY & EVAN | ANTHONY PULL ON CHAMBRAY SHORT
These shorts look like they belong at a summer home in New England in the best way possible!
They are soft and easy for kids to pull on and off, yet they kind of “class up” any outfit.
Retail Price: $18.00

What we liked about this Andy & Evan Chambray Short:
I loved the color! These shorts would pair nicely with all the button down shirts that came in this Stitch Fix Kids clothing box.
What we didn’t like about this Andy & Evan Chambray Short:
These felt a bit expensive. I usually don’t pay more than $10 for shorts for my boys.
And my son wasn’t thrilled when he saw them.
FINAL VERDICT: Return
TAILOR VINTAGE | GIO SEERSUCKER STRIPE FLAT FRONT SHORT
Is there anything more classic that seersucker for boys’ summer clothes?
I’d say seersucker is one of those fabrics that people either love or hate. There’s no in-between.
Retail Price: $20

What we liked about this Tailor Vintage Seersucker Short:
I liked the length and the color.
What we didn’t like about this Tailor Vintage Seersucker Short:
My son did NOT like them.
They didn’t feel very soft and I just know they would sit in his drawer unworn for most of the summer.
FINAL VERDICT: Return
PX | MATTEO SHORT SLEEVE WOVEN SHIRT
I know it’s hard to tell, but the pattern on this shirt is little swordfish. I originally thought they were sharks until my son took a closer look and corrected me.
For a button down shirt, this has just the right amount of whimsy!
Retail Price: $22.00

What we liked about this PX Woven Shirt:
It felt nice and crisp and would look super cute with blue shorts and a blue bow tie!
What we didn’t like about this PX Woven Shirt:
My son isn’t a huge fan of sea life, so I really wasn’t surprised that was lukewarm about it.
Because the pattern is so small, the shirt feels a bit busy.
FINAL VERDICT: Return
FLAPDOODLES | MCGUIRE 2 PACK SHORT SLEEVE TEES
I had to check the flyer to see that these shirts were a packaged deal.
One has a giant shark on the front and the other has a more subtle shark pattern.
Retail Price: $20.00

What we liked about this Flapdoodles Short Sleeve Tees:
The quality of these shirts is fantastic. My son cracked up when he saw the “wanna play” shark tee and couldn’t wait to try it on!
What we didn’t like about this Flapdoodles Short Sleeve Tees:
I didn’t like that these were a package deal. My son LOVED one of the shirts and insisted on getting it, but he didn’t like the other.
So, we’re paying $20 to keep one shirt and give the other one to a friend.
FINAL VERDICT: Keep

I was really impressed with how many items were inside this Stitch Fix Kids subscription box. We got 7 shirts, 3 pairs of shorts and one pair of shoes.
While we didn’t end up purchasing the entire Stitch Fix Kids box, we did find some items we really liked. And I know that our stylist Kristina B. understands what we’re looking for.
In her note to us, she says she picked this fun Mickey tee because she knows my son loves Disney characters and that we were looking for cool shirts and shorts for photos during our summer trips.
Our next box is scheduled to arrive in July, so keep a look out for that Stitch Fix Kids unboxing video and review!
And if you’d like to try Stitch Fix Kids, use my affiliate link and we’ll both get $25!
