Are You Ready for Some Football?
Something magical happens as soon as the calendar flips over to September here in Seattle. The air gets a bit crisper, the crockpot comes out, and our Sundays consist of relaxing and watching the Seattle Seahawks with friends and family!
This year, our kids are almost 5 years old and almost 2 years old and they are PUMPED! They have their official NFL jerseys, are practicing their touchdown dances, and know that we always celebrate Blue Friday.
But, I think they are mostly excited for football SNACKS. See, they have discovered that we can order an officially licensed NFL cake featuring the Seattle Seahawks and they begged me to pick one up for the first game of the season!
We Are the 12th Man!
My husband has always been a passionate Seattle Seahawks fan. When I met him, I realized that I should probably learn a bit about football so we could enjoy the games together.
At the time, the Seattle Seahawks Women’s Association had just launched their first Football 101 fundraising.event for women wanting a hands-on experience learning about football. It was so incredible that I ended up going almost every year they offered it!
When I was pregnant with our oldest, we started attending the Seattle Seahawks Family Football Fest at CenturyLink field. Part of the reason I’m such a Seahawks fan now is that they really emphasize the importance of getting kids involved.
Throughout the years, we’ve participated in several Seahawks 5k runs/walks, toured CenturyLink field, attended autograph events, experienced Seahawks Training Camp, and have high-fived Blitz more times than I can count!
We even had a Seahawks-themed baby shower during a Seahawks game when I was pregnant! We opened all our presents at rapid speed during halftime. It was hilarious!
And of course, we did Seahawks baby announcement cards, too! We even sent one to Coach Carroll and he sent our son a Super Bowl keychain!

How We’re Gearing Up for Kickoff
Something you should know about me is that I’m very thematic. So, for Seahawks season, I like decorating our house a bit. We usually hang our Seahawks flag outside and put out our Seahawks doormat.
And I always hit up my favorite local party store to grab Seattle Seahawks tablecloths, cups, plates, paper straws, and any other fun football-themed decor I can find!
For me, football is all about friends and family. It’s always fun to have people over to watch the game. My husband likes to show off his wall-mounted TV and I like to chat with my friends and play with the kids.
This year, we’re planning on several family-style meals including chili with corn chips, smoked brisket, and pulled pork. We always make way too much food and everyone goes home with full bellies.
But, we never forget the snacks! I like to make our family recipe for clam dip with Ruffles potato chips. It’s always a huge hit!
How We’re Making This Year Extra Special
Every party needs cake, right? Whether you are celebrating the season kickoff, a playoff game, an engagement, an anniversary, a new baby, a birthday, good grades, or any special moment for your family, a cake is always a good idea!

We ordered this officially licensed NFL Seattle Seahawks cake from our local Safeway store. It was easy to pick up in the bakery department.
As soon as we opened it at home, our room was filled with the most amazing vanilla scent! I figured it would be the focal point for my Seattle Seahawks tablescape.
I put our snack table in the entryway so it would be the first thing people see (and smell) as soon as they enter our home.
If you are cutting up the entire cake, I suggest using unscented dental floss for really clean lines. This works really well especially if you are cutting tiny pieces for little kids.
What My Kids Thought of the Cake
The second I mentioned it was time for cake, my boys ran to the table faster than ever! Since we were celebrating the start of football season, I cut them generous helpings.
While my kids usually like to lick the frosting off of cupcakes, they actually ate the cake part, too!
They kept saying how yummy the cake was and they loved the blue and green frosting! My youngest insisted on using a fork to eat the cake, but my oldest thought it would be fun to try it with his hands!
I love special treats, so I also had a slice. And yes, it tastes just as good as it smells!

Go Hawks! I’m going to miss out on the football stuff for the next few years, so you’ll have to cheer extra hard for me. ;)
