I was really hesitant to buy nursing clothes after the birth of my first son because everything I saw looked so frumpy and cumbersome. I ended up just wearing regular shirts, which meant I had to expose my tummy to nurse my son when I was out and about. Normally I'd be fine with that, but it was winter and I was cold and it made the whole nursing experience feel make-shift and I didn't like that. When I had my second son, I knew I needed to really search for some nice nursing clothes. That's where Bun Maternity fits in.
While perusing their website, I was immediately attracted to the style of clothing they offer. It was all the same style I was used to wearing, but much more functional with the nursing option. I live in Seattle and I'm used to wearing sweatshirts basically year-round and was thrilled that they had a Hoodie option that looked comfortable but also fitted and what I'd call "Northwest Chic."
Bun Maternity sent me a few items to try out. The first was their Cozy Nursing Hoodie. I can't believe how soft the fabric is, which is perfect for cuddling with my newborn. It's light/medium weight, which is perfect for me because I always feel a bit overheated when nursing, however I also get chilly if I have to expose too much skin. The fabric also has a bit of stretch for a flattering fit. It's really easy to unsnap the top of the hoodie for easy nursing access. I've also successfully nursed in it while keeping the top snapped. My favorite feature of this hoodie is the front pocket! After perusing online for maternity and nursing clothes that have pockets, I'm stoked to have actually found something with a pocket so I can stash my phone (which has my nursing tracker app on it.)
This will also be the ultimate wardrobe piece for flying because it would keep me warm on the plane and I'd feel covered up enough. I have a feeling that I will continue to wear it even when I've stopped nursing because it fits so well.
They also sent me their Softie Nursing Tee, which is incredibly soft and lightweight. Like I said, I tend to feel overheated when nursing (which is the opposite of what I'm like when I'm not nursing), so I usually try to find shirts that are thin so I don't feel sweaty. Thinner shirts are also great because spit up and milk leaks dry quickly so you aren't walking around with a damp shirt. This shirt has a very flattering cut and I feel fairly stylish wearing it with jeans. It's hard to find nursing tees that aren't boxy or cumbersome, so I love that this shirt hugs me in all the right places. This is a great piece to layer underneath the hoodie and it can be worn out and about or paired with pajamas. They have lots of colors and they can be worn year-round in all types of climates.
Finally, they sent me a nursing poncho. This is also lightweight, so it's easy to stash in my diaper bag. I've used this piece not only for nursing, but also as a huge burp cloth to protect my shirt when we are away from home. I've also used it as a makeshift blanket for my son in his carseat. Full disclosure: I've already used this to cover up some epic spit up on my clothing!
Bun Maternity sent me products for review purposes.
I'm so excited that Bun Maternity has partnered with me to giveaway a nursing tank and tee combo!
My oldest son was born 5 weeks premature and spent time in the NICU. It was several days after he was born that I was finally able to hold him and it was pure magic! I held him for almost 2 hours doing skin-to-skin and his health drastically improved. I did as much skin-to-skin as I was able and each time he seemed to get stronger and thrive more. I knew I wanted to do skin-to-skin for my second child. So, when I heard about VIJA Design's Kangaroo Care Shirt, I was instantly intrigued.
When my shirt first arrived, I was surprised how thick it was. I had been envisioning a much thinner shirt and was curious how long I'd comfortably be able to wear a baby. The thickness makes the shirt feel much more supportive and like a normal baby carrier.
I really like that they offer clear instructions about how to use this product on their website. And they send an instructional postcard in with your purchase that has pictures to show you how to get your newborn in the shirt. This makes it easy for new parents to figure out (especially those who are sleep-deprived.) I can't tell you how many hours my husband and I spent looking at YouTube videos on how to work some of our baby carriers the first time around!
It did take me a few times of putting our baby in the shirt for me to get the hang of it. I originally put him in the outer pouch and then realized I should put him inside the inner criss-crossed parts. I had my husband help me one time and it was easy for him to slip our son into the shirt. The third time, I did it on my own and found it to be fast. My son loves snuggling next to me and it's perfect now that the weather is getting chillier.
This shirt also converts to a nursing shirt, which makes it ideal if you are planning on traveling anywhere with your newborn. I'm a big fan of versatile clothing, especially when traveling, so the fact that it's a carrier and a nursing shirt is a win for me! I can see this being especially useful on an airplane. I tested out the ease of nursing in it and I found it to be just as convenient as a regular nursing shirt. I like that I can wear it as a nursing shirt out and about and then slip in my newborn for his post-nursing milk-drunk nap.
The only thing I don't like about this shirt is that it feels a bit short. Granted, I have a longer torso, but I'd feel so much more comfortable if it were about 3 inches longer. I like to wear this shirt with yoga pants, which are usually medium to low-rise and I don't like it when the shirt rides up to show an inch of skin.
I wore this shirt just 3 days after giving birth because I was really excited to try it out. Because the fabric is thick and designed to be supportive, it was perfect postpartum. It was snug around my ever-changing tummy, which felt really good. I also felt really confident having my super newborn inside the shirt. I wasn't worried about him flopping around or anything because he was very snug to my body, and I could hear him breathing and cooing the whole time. This shirt made it easy for me to wear him while eating, drinking, checking email, packing the diaper bag, going up and down the stairs, etc.
What I especially like about this product is that I'm able to be more hands-on with my toddler. I'm able to sit on the floor and play trains with him while knowing my newborn is safe and snug inside my Kangaroo Care shirt. It also enables me to grab my toddler milk, make him lunch, hold his hand while heading up for nap time, and giving him snuggles with both arms. My toddler stills gets the physical attention that all kids crave.

When I was looking at baby products when I was pregnant with my oldest, I was so confused. All the photos showed cribs full of stuffed animals, blankets, pillows, and bumpers. However, everything I was reading about safety said to leave everything out of the crib. I was even more baffled with all the nursery bedding packages that seemed to include everything that was deemed unsafe.
The second-time around, we knew to ignore all the photos of cribs piled with stuff and focus on decorating the nursery, not the crib. We went with a travel theme (read more about How to Create a Travel-Themed Nursery here.) It was so easy to design a fun nursery while leaving the crib undecorated.
October is SIDS Awareness Month. For anyone who is pregnant or has a baby, SIDS is especially scary to think about. Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) still claims more than 3,500 infants each year in North America. More than half of these deaths are preventable when proper safe sleep practices are followed. To help keep all babies sleeping safely and avoid these unnecessary tragedies, HALO is dedicated to putting the health, safety and well-being of babies first. In fact, over 1,400 hospitals use HALO SleepSack wearable blankets through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Hospital Initiative. Through this program, HALO has helped Hospitals and Birth Centers throughout North America create their own safe sleep programs, which utilize the HALO SleepSack Swaddle to demonstrate to parents and caregivers how to keep their babies sleeping safely. To date, HALO has donated more than $4.3 million in its efforts to promote safe sleep education.

My son Owen is a binky baby. He was born premature and they recommended using a pacifier when he was in the NICU to strengthen his sucking skills so he could nurse. They also encouraged us to use it to reduce the risk of SIDS. He entered this world fighting and the pacifier seemed to really comfort him in a stressful situation.
He was very particular about the brand of binky and would only use the kind we got at the hospital. Thankfully we were able to stock up and it was quite normal for him to have 3-4 loose binkies in his crib at any given time. We were very thankful to discover pacifier clips when he was older and we would clip them to all his clothes. The tricky thing about the clips is that we still had to pop them in his mouth frequently.
I ran across the Snuggin while looking for innovative baby products for Baby #2 and was instantly intrigued. Not only are there several places to attach pacifiers and/or toys, but there is a velcro storage unit in the back! This is perfect for if/when it fall on a dirty floor when we are out and about and I need a clean pacifier pronto! I also like how big it is because it's great for tiny hands to grasp.
Owen's been having fun playing with the Snuggin. He's now 2.5 years old and we're just starting the trying to wean him off the binky. Part of our process is explaining that binkies are for babies and he's a big boy. He will be getting a little brother in the next few weeks so we've been using the Snuggin as a tool to show how he can help soothe the baby with the pacifier.

It’s no secret that I love to travel. The hardest part is usually figuring out which shoes to pack and how much suitcase space I really want to use up. The same goes for when I pack for my toddler, Owen. Sometimes his shoes take up as much room as his clothes! That's why I love moccasins. They are easily packed in checked luggage or stored in your carry-on until you reach your destination and they make any outfit seem put together.
I was recently talking with Rachel over at Freshly Picked and she is giving my readers a pair of free mocs! They are the "it" shoes for babies and toddlers and are available in an array of colors for both boys and girls. These mocs can be any size, and any color. Don’t have a baby to put mocs on? Win them for a friend or family member! They also make the perfect baby shower present. Read below how you can win them.
I get to give away a pair of soft soled moccasins to one of my readers! The contest starts July 24th and ends at 11:59pm PDT on July 30th. Entering is easy (located below)
